Nye & Company Auctioneers will be holding a three-day sales extravaganza featuring American Furniture, Folk Art and Native American Art starting January 25th at 10am EST. The Chic and Antique Estate Treasures auction, which features nearly 1000 lots, is a curated mix of Fine and Decorative Arts spanning from the 18th Century to present day, including an exceptional selection of property from the Stanley Weiss Collection, folk art from the Maggie Cohen collection and superb early American furniture from a private Connecticut collection. Headlining the Chic and Antique Estates Treasure auction is property consigned by the well-known Rhode Island collector, Stanley Weiss. Other furniture highlights include a nice selection of Queen Anne and Chippendale furniture from a private Connecticut collection. There is also a rare birchwood blockfront kneehole bureau that was once owned by Walter and Kay Jeffords, who owned Faraway Farm in conjunction with Samuel Riddle. Not to be overshadowed is the rare Coles-Tomlinson set of six Queen Anne dining chairs attributed to the celebrated cabinetmaker William Savery of Philadelphia. There is also a nice selection of Native American objects, including a rare Navajo 4th Phase chief’s wearing blanket ca. 1870-1875. The sale has quite a lot of Folk Art which is headlined by the New York City collection of Maggie Cohen. Included in her collection are a number of potato stamped Northeast Coast Native American baskets and several whirligigs. There are also a number of cobalt-decorated stoneware pieces, decoys and ship models that come from a private Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Estate. This collector also had a keen eye for some exceptional folk paintings which include an early view of Paterson Falls, NJ, a pair of house portraits depicting the recto and verso of a Connecticut River home, a depiction of Washington’s headquarters in Newburgh, New York and a splendid still fruit still life in the manner of the Peale family of painters.
