The former Parisian home of the Hubert Guerrand-Hermès collection, Hôtel de Lannion is a testament to the architecture and opulence of the Ancien Régime. Built in 1754 by Jean Damun, architect to the Prince of Conti, the mansion is laid out according to the traditional Parisian townhouse floor plan “between courtyard and garden”. This first-rate reception space dazzles visitors with its interior decoration featuring gilded stucco adornments including the volutes and shell designs of the listed Louis XV Grand Salon, illustrating the persistence of the Rocaille style. Like a tribute to the true purpose of Hôtel de Lannion – which is to showcase the great decorative arts –, Hubert Guerrand-Hermès called upon the decorator François-Joseph Graf when he took possession of the space. The designer had to incorporate a large collection including 18th-century decorative arts, post-war painting, and contemporary sculpture and design, with a certain taste for hunting. In the several rooms Hubert Guerrand-Hermès presented Contemporary confirmed artists such as Daniel Spoerri, David Hockney or Yves Klein along with 18th century furniture such as this exquisite games table stamped by Henri Wirtz, a pair of gilt-bronze ornamental vases with children, circa 1820 or a late Louis XVI gueridon stamped by Adam Weisweiler. He collected original design like these green sofas made by Pierre Paulin but also artists from the Far East with Liu Wei. His taste was eclectic, he was surrounded by French porcelain and classical silver but also by works of art created by César and Max Ernst. Every inch of his hotel was full of art, from photographs by Man Ray to paintings by Jean-Baptiste Oudry with a particular taste for 18th century old master drawings. As a hunting lover, he assembled a set of paintings with dogs, hunting scenes by Jean-Baptiste Huet and Eugène Lami. ---------------------------- Ancien écrin parisien de la Collection d’Hubert Guerrand-Hermès, l’hôtel de Lannion témoigne de l’architecture et des fastes de l’Ancien Régime. Construit en 1754 par Jean Damun, architecte du prince de Conti, l’hôtel respecte le plan traditionnel des hôtels particulier parisiens « entre cours et jardin ». Véritable demeure de réception, l’hôtel éblouit ses visiteurs par son décor intérieur composé d’ornements en stuc doré dont les volutes et coquilles du Grand salon Louis XV classé illustrent la persistance du style rocaille. Comme un hommage à la vocation de l’hôtel de Lannion qui est de mettre en valeur les grands arts décoratifs, Hubert Guerrand-Hermès fait appel au décorateur François-Joseph Graf au moment de son installation. Celui-ci doit composer avec une importante collection alliant les arts décoratifs du XVIIIe, la peinture d’après-guerre, la sculpture contemporaine et le design, et un goût certain pour la cynégétique. Dans les différentes pièces, Hubert Guerrand-Hermès a su présenter des artistes contemporains confirmés comme Daniel Spoerri, David Hockney, Yves Klein, placés à côté de mobilier du XVIIIe siècle tels que cette magnifique table à jeux estampillée de Henri Wirtz, une paire de vases en bronze doré décorées de chérubins, vers 1820 ou un très beau guéridon d’époque Louis XVI, estampillé Adam Weisweiler. Hubert Guerrand-Hermès n’a pas hésité à collectionner des œuvres de design comme des canapés verts signés Pierre Paulin mais également des artistes de contrées plus lointaines comme Liu Wei. Son goût était éclectique, il s’entourait de porcelaine et d’argenterie pour embellir ses tables mais aussi d’œuvres de César ou de Max Ernst. Chaque centimètre carré de son hôtel était orné d’art, des photos de Man Ray aux peintures de Jean-Baptiste Oudry avec un goût prononcé pour le dessin du XVIIIe siècle représenté par Carmontelle et Saint-Aubin . Passionnée de chasse, il rassemblait des scènes de chasse à courre peintes par Jean-Baptiste Huet ou encore Eugène Lami. Tous les siècles avaient leur place dans cet écrin parisien hors du commun.
