Asian & Ethnographic Arts & Textile Auction

This season's two-day auction will feature institutional property from The Schenectady Museum; Fashion Institute of Technology; Plymouth Area Historical Society; Indianapolis Museum of Art; Shippensburg University. Property from private collectors and estates will also be sold, including garments attributed to Charles James from the estate of Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney and a large collection of Yves Saint Laurent and other designer clothing and accessories from an important Washington DC estate. Friday Nov. 2: Documentary textile collections including large quantity of swatches de-accessed from Fashion Institute of Technology. These swatches, given to FIT by the Brooklyn Museum, were never placed in circulation by the FIT design laboratory and have been unseen for years. Ethnographic textiles; a collection of Navajo carpets from The Indianapolis Museum of Art; Chinese garments, textiles; Oriental carpets; lace and lace tablecloths; large one owner collection of Paisley shawls; and Continental textiles will also be sold. Saturday Nov.3: Couture, vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories with important couture examples from Chanel; Dior; Balmain; Balenciaga; Lacroix; Lanvin; Courreges; Desses; and others. Several examples from important American designers Charles James; Ralph Rucci; Geoffrey Beene; and others will be sold. Accessories to be sold include Hermes, Vuitton and other designer handbags, Yves Saint Laurent and other costume jewelry, fans, shoes, group of British and American military uniforms, etc.
