Magic Books & More-The Sperber Collection
Potter & Potter's winter sale will feature the library of Burton S. Sperber of Malibu, California. Mr. Sperber amassed an astounding collection of antiquarian books, souvenir tokens, trade cards, "wee" books, advertising mirrors (known in the filed as "mirror cards"), and associated ephemera - all on the subject of conjuring.
The strength of the Sperber collection was, unquestionably, printed material. Among the best-known works in Sperber's library were a first edition of Scot's Discoverie of Witchcraft (London, 1584), a first edition of Henry Dean's seminal Hocus Pocus (London, 1722), and dozens of other rarities, dating from the 17th century to modern times.
In addition, magic posters, props, ephemera, and Houdiniana will be included in the auction.
