Important Autographs w/ Fine Antiques & Arts

Quinn's Auction Galleries in Falls Church will present the personal autographs of 27 of our 43 Presidents, in conjunction with the Bethesda Maryland based Waverly Auctions, Inc which Quinn’s recently announced the acquisition of.

The collection primarily from the collection of Nevell S. Greenaway who worked in the US Patent office, and served as the clerk of the court in Alexandria during the latter half of the 19th century. In the collection Quinn’s found an essay written by Greenaway titled “The Confessions of and Autograph Collector,” dated 1897 where Nevell discussed how he acquired much of his collection. “…Being personally acquainted with General R. E. Lee’s son, I asked him if he could not give me some of his father’s writing. He sent me a cancelled check drawn up by the general…” in an excerpt from the essay. The cancelled check mentioned in the essay will be lot 117 in the auction Monday. Copies of the entire essay are available in the print catalog for $8 in the gallery or $10 via post.

This is a two session sale with session two featuring over 200 lots of Fine Antiques & Decorative Arts.

Session two will begin at 2:00 P.M. and will feature Federal Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock by William Cummens (1768-1834) of Boston & Roxbury, Mass. with eight day movement, hourly strike, second hand, day/night aperature disc, inscribed "Warranted by Wm Cummens", 91" h. with a presale estimate of $10,000 to $12,000.
