Welcome to A+O's second auction of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art in 2014. The market for quality New Zealand art continues to steadily rise as does ART+OBJECT?s market share, our April art auction realized a sales total of 1.8 million, the highest auction house total from the round of Autumn auction sales. In this auction a new record price was set for a work by Milan Mrkusich ($125 450) and strong prices were also achieved for high-profile lots including Colin McCahon?s Clouds No. 7 ($263 810) and Black White Landscape ($146 560), Michael Illingworth?s Fertile Fig and Timepieces ($137 750) and Ralph Hotere?s Vidyapati?s Song ($257 950). Highlights of the current catalogue include major paintings by Gordon Walters, Pat Hanly, Tony Fomison, an important Colin McCahon painting from the collection of Ikon Gallery Director Don Wood which was gifted by McCahon to him on the occasion of his wedding in the early 1960s, and three fine examples of Richard Kileen's cutouts from the period 1985 to 1993.
