Decorative Arts

The extent to which the emerging autonomy of artistic expression found its way into various areas of life, including design, at the turn of the century, is clearly demonstrated by a further Art Nouveau highlight. The early and highly decorated vase by Emile Gallé impresses with its double gourd shape and intricately engraved décor. On the other side of the design spectrum, we find a superb Kantharos vase by Sèvres from the 1950s, which was produced after a design by Jean Maydon.
