Robert White Estate & Senator Daniel Moynihan

ROBERT L. WHITE SINGLE-OWNER ESTATE HISTORIC, POLITICAL AND HOLLYWOOD MEMORABILIA On May 15th Hantman’s, in conjunction with Second Story Books, will sell the Robert L. White estate historical and political memorabilia collection. White, the world renowned John F. Kennedy collector whose Kennedy collection was on permanent display at the Florida International Museum for five years, also collected heavily in other areas. His non-Kennedy memorabilia auction is expected to draw collectors nationwide due to his reputation. Highlights include a 1939 Wuthering Heights Oscar, Titanic dish and spoon rescued by a survivor, massive Iwo Jima collection, 1895-1936 Saville Row client register with 12,000+ signatures of period international statesmen, inventors, industry moguls, writers, artists, etc., and Abraham Lincoln memorabilia, including a purported blood stained fragment from the towel used by the first attending physician after Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth. Other categories are documents signed by Lincoln and by JFK, Emmys, autographed Hollywood, historical, space and sports photographs and letters; 19th century hotel registers, many with Civil War signatures (officers, generals, political figures); Clara Barton collection, American flag collection (Civil War-Korean War, many flown on historic U.S. battleships). 18TH-20TH CENTURY ANTIQUES AND FINE ART FEATURING SENATOR DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN POLITICAL MEMORABILIA MAY 16, 2004 Political memorabilia belonging to New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, one of the most respected 20th century international statesmen, will be auctioned in a live gallery-simulcast eBay auction by Hantman’s Auctioneers in Rockville, Maryland, May 16th. Moynihan’s memorabilia will be included in Hantman’s 18th-20th Century American, European and Asian Antiques and Fine Arts Auction. Fine art highlights include a newly discovered Matisse drawing, Tete de Feme, dated 1931, a Winslow Homer drawing, Boy in a Blackberry Patch, dated 1873, both consigned by a Philadelphia School artist in his nineties, and Cotton Pickers, oil on canvas, by American artist, William Aiken Walker. Coinciding with the retrospective of Moynihan’s life currently on display at the City of New York Museum, the sale of Moynihan's political memorabilia will provide a rare opportunity for historians and collectors to view and bid on his collection that spans a 50 year government career. The public can preview his collection prior to the sale. Bidders will find 162 lots of autographed letters to Moynihan from American Presidents, Members of Congress, heads of state, celebrities, writers, artists and journalists; Presidential signing pens, appointment certificates, signed and inscribed photographs, posters and books. Hantman’s will sell part two in the fall along with other important memorabilia.
