Private Press, Illustrated & Children's Books

This sale includes one of the finest collections of books illustrated by Edmund Dulac and Arthur Rackham to be sold in recent years. The 57 volumes are almost all the de luxe issues, signed by the artists and bound in vellum. The books are in particularly good condition, preserved in custom-made morocco-backed cases. Many of the volumes are in their original unopened state. Private Press is one of the most popular subject areas at Bloomsbury and we are delighted to be offering over 200 lots from the property of Anthony Dowd. Mr Dowd has been a collector since the 1950s and has lectured on many aspects of private press publications in Britain and the USA. This is an extremely rare opportunity to buy from the library of one of the most respected collectors in England. We have also a large collection of works by Cecil Aldin.
