Although Russian art is very much the core of this sale there is plenty to suit all tastes and all pockets from a Derain drawing of a nude woman to a painting of a recumbent male nude by Sandra Fisher. We are delighted to offer four important paintings by three of Russia's most influential artists of the early 1920's and all have been verified by experts of this period. They are the property of a private Dutch collector and three of the four paintings have never been on the market before, having been acquired by the present owner by descent from the artist. A Monumental Panel for a Festive Occasion of the 'UNOVIS' art school signed by Nikolai Mikhailovich Suetin in Cyrillic and dated 21G. This extraordinarily powerful monumental Suprematist work in the form of a long panel and painted in muted yellow, green, red, brown and black is typical of many of Suetin's 'UNOVIS' pieces executed in the post revolutionary years. The next lot, Suprematist Composition, is also by Suetin, signed in Cyrillic and dated Vitebsk 21. This is magnificent oil on canvas is typical of the artist's time in Vitebsk with its use of geometric, hard-edged Suprematist shapes and broad areas of overlaid geometric forms in pure colour, evoking a strong sense of modernity, almost prefiguring the Space Age.
