32nd annual New Years Day Sale
Hudson Valley Auctioneers will conduct its 32nd annual New Years Day auction Friday, January 1st at 1:00 pm. Included are several partial contents from Dutchess and Westchester Counties, a Darien Ct. Estate and a large collection of Judaica from a Goshen NY collection.
Diverse items from the East 142nd Street NYC studio of the renowned Piccirilli Bros. studio will be offered. Discovered in a Yorktown estate the offering includes several plaster castings of statuary including "Fragilina", candid photographs of the artists and some of their works, correspondence between Attilio, Robert Moses and Joseph Freedlander concerning the NYC Police Memorial and the National Academy prize winning plaster "Black Eagle" by Horatio.
Of the many lots of 19th century furniture the highlight is an exceptional Italian inlaid bookcase secretary with brass and fine wood inlays from the Piffetti family workshop. Asian items including rosewood and marble furniture, porcelains, artworks in ink and assorted carvings sell before various artworks including oils by Simbari, Stefan Hirsch, Stephan Pan, Ruth Bennet, Alfred Rasmussen and others. Mid century furniture and decorative accessories include an excellent Barcelona leather and chrome sofa and an iron and leather Luther Conover swivel chair among other pieces. Silver items are well represented by a pair of Spanish Colonial sanctuary hanging lights inscribed and dated 1681 and weighing 240 troy ounces, several lots of Tiffany and a Gorham Versailles flatware set as well as several lots Italian silver objects. 35 lots of jewelry including carved Chinese jade and gold pendants and rings, gold estate jewelry and watches, Mexican including Pineda and much more. The Darien estate will finish out the first session with fine china, glass, clocks including Tiffany, English tall case and an Ansonia swinger.
