Watches: Wristwatches from the 30s-50s
Wristwatches took over from pocketwatches following the First World War, but they really took off, in design and popularity, in the years from 1930-1959. Some hugely iconic watches were developed during this time, which are still popular today, amongst collectors and beyond. Some of the highlights of this collection include a Rolex ?Turtle Timer? Oyster from 1940, the brand its watches were sold under in the US; a superb Movado single button chronograph c.1945 ref. 14865, signed Mappin & Webb, the famous English silversmith and jewelry store; and a Patek Philippe ref. 2425, c.1948, with a silver dial, gold hands and case, and a brown alligator leather strap.
