Exclusive Online Auction with Gramercy 32 Fine Arts
* A showcase of Peter Guttman's stunning travel fine art photography - no reserve price
* Leading European and American 20th Century painters.
New York, New York — Gramercy 32 Fine Arts sale of 20th Century paintings and photography, on five Thursdays starting May 4, will feature an outstanding collection of photography from the far corners of the world by Peter Guttman, with no reserve price. The 49 lots are estimated at $800-$1000 each. Only the limited-edition numbered prints listed at Live Auctioneers will be auctioned.
Photography is rapidly escalating in value. Just last February, The New York Times reported that a Steichen print was sold for $3 million underneath a dramatic headline proclaiming "A Big Sale Spurs Talk of a Photography Gold Rush."
Concurrent with this landmark deal, was another first at Sotheby’s ¬ a privately curated exhibition by Brigitte Saint-Ouen of a living artist, Peter Guttman. For four perfect days in February, The Romantic Worlds of Peter Guttman, sponsored by Kodak, was exhibited at Sotheby's in New York. It was the first time in the history of the venerable auction house that a living artist and a private gallery have been honored with a solo show. The extraordinary exhibition featured the visual artistry of a man CNN has described as "one of the premier travel photographers." Rich, evocative, almost spiritual in their power to convey depth and emotion, Guttman's photographs have been celebrated around the world for their spectacular lighting, majesty and drama.
The upcoming auction will also spotlight a remarkable collection of Post-Impressionist paintings amassed by a New York Philanthropist over the course of 40 years. Wonderful paintings by such artists as Claude Cambour, Louis Fabien, Yolande Ardissone, Royo, Americo Makk, Constantin Kluge, Graciela Boulanger, Malva, Bernard Gartner and Andre Vignoles, will be featured.
In addition, 12 lots of never-before-viewed paintings from a private collection in Oregon will be auctioned. Included are works by Frederic McDuff, as well as five lots of Dominique Guillemard and Howard Behrens.
Lastly, 23 lots of 20th Century American and European paintings will be available, including works by Pablo Picasso (etching), serigraphy from Vladimir Mihanovic, oil on canvas from Micheleine Saint Hilaire, Danielle LeBricquir, Edwige Mitterrand and 19th Century painting by Paul Pierre Emiot .
