New Jersey Midland Switch Key - J. L. Howard

Tapered barrel brass switch key made by Romer in Newark, New Jersey for the Chicago & Western Indiana Railroad. It also has a "J" where you might find an "S". A earlier key from a fine maker.

Made by J. W. Climax in Newark, NJ. The Morris & Essex was built to service those two New Jersey counties. It is very nice looking and I wonder about the age.

We had this same bit with a VCRR marking a few years ago. I am 99% sure it's Central Vermont Railroad and not Cumberland Valley. There si a faint hallmark on the reverse that I think is a J. L. Howard
