BIOGRAPHY:
Marion Rice is known for Impressionist female portrait, figure, still life and landscape painting. She was born in St. Louis in 1905 and died in Arkansas in 1994. Her birth name was Marion. She DID live for awhile in New York, and was there during the 1940s and 50s. The stretchers for this painting are labeled "Glendale, New York". Rice's talent was noticed by a New York publisher, who made lithographs of some of her floral still-lifes, and sold about a gazillion prints of them.Rice was extremely prolific and painted several scenes set in France. This street scene with a colorful flower stall appears to be Parisian. Certainly the women are well dressed, and the dogs are white French Poodles.
