Lot of three (3) books related to John Brown and the Harper's Ferry Raid, including:
1. John Redpath (1833-1891). The Public Life of Captain John Brown. Boston: Thayer and Eldridge, 1860. 12mo. Frontispiece and two additional illustrations. Original brown cloth. Sabin. 68528. FIRST EDITION of journalist and abolitionist Redpath's biography of his friend John Brown. Redpath himself moved to the Kansas-Missouri border in 1855 to report for the Free Soil newspaper the Missouri Democrat, interviewing Brown a few days of the Pottawatomie Massacre. While perhaps less than objective, the sympathetic biography the work is an important entry in the record of John Brown.
2. John H. Zittle and Hanna Minnie Weaver Zittle. A Correct History of the John Brown Invasion at Harper's Ferry, West Va., Oct. 17, 1859. Hagerstown, Maryland: Mail Publishing Company, 1905. 8vo. Original dark brown cloth. Howes Z-18. "Life of captain" written in period ink to front free endpaper. FIRST EDITION eyewitness account by a Virginia militiaman.
3. Samuel Vanderlip Leech. The Raid of John Brown at Harper's Ferry As I Saw It. Washington, D.C., The De Soto, by the Author, 1909. 8vo. Original navy cloth. Provenance: Leslie T. White, Montross, VA (ownership inscription to front free endpaper)
