Description
The Great Eastern by Charles Van Ryper is in excellent condition and is 11 1/2" long mounted in a newer case 16" overall. Van Ryper versions of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's screw propelled steamship are hard to find. The Great Eastern was launched in 1858 and at 692 feet, was, by far, the largest ship ever built up until 1899, when the Oceanic finally eclipsed her. She was designed to carry 4000 passengers from England to Australia without refueling
