Probably made by a Mongo people, but it is difficult to define exactly what ethnicity it comes from exactly
According to the Africamuseum, which presents a similar one in its collections, the double bells already appeared on the engravings that the colonists made in the Congolese region in the 16th and 17th centuries. They are symbols of power and were mainly used to announce the arrival of a king
Other sources speak of a more frequent use during ceremonies and dances
