Palaeolithic Period, circa 200,000 B.C. With broad rounded butt, D-shaped in section, some cortex in place; old inked '3' beneath a natural cavity with cortex. Cf. MacGregor, A. (ed.), Antiquities from Europe and the Near East in the Collection of Lord MacAlpine of West Green, Oxford, 1987, item 1.12, for type. 278 grams, 12 cm (4 3/4 in.).
