Description
Jerzy Faczynski Self-Portrait, black ink, signed lower left. On vellum. Size: 11 5/8 X 8 inches. Unframed. Jerzy Faczynski was born in Poland in 1917 to an artistic family, and studied art and architecture in Warsaw, Liverpool and London. He came to England in 1940 as a member of the Polish Air Force and remained there after the war. He was associated with the architectural work of over 25 churches in the north of England, including the circular church at Degany Junction and St. Mary's in Leyland, where he also designed the stained glass windows. Faczynski had exhibitions in the National Gallery of Scotland; Art Galleries of the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh; Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport; Royal British Institute of British Architects; and the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. He had a one man show in Blue Coat Chambers, Liverpool in 1945 and in the same year a book of his drawings, "Studies in Polish Architecture," was published by Liverpool University Press. The contents of his studio were sold at several sales by Bonhams of Chester in 2006.
