Item Details
Description
Rare Child's Victorian Walnut Dresser. The dresser has three drawers, a faux folding drawer front that opens to a desk with fitted drawers and compartments. Top of dresser has two glove drawers, mirror with candle shelves, arched top with turned finial, and center rosette with monogram. Front feet of dresser has carved leaves and vine design. Back legs are turned. The drawers are marked, "Patented July 30th, 1879, H. C. Underwood Mfg. Co. Wabash, IND." Underwood actually patented this piece prior to beginning his company in 1883. The company manufactured silk cabinets, jewelers benches, and telephone wood work. In 1900, the name changed to the Wabash Cabinet Co. Inc. In 1923, the company signed a million dollar contract to manufacture phonograph cabinets for the Columbia Graphophone Company. We believe this piece to be a rare one of a kind piece, possibly a proto-type that was never mass produced. Measures 50" high X 18 1/4" wide X 10" deep.
