The desirable first French 4to edition (another French edition in two 8vo vols. was also published in 1788).
First published in London in 1788, it became one of the most popular books on the Pacific at the close of the 18th cent.
The crew of the shipwrecked Antilope built a small boat from the wreck, with which they sailed to Macao.
They took with them Prince Lee Boo (Son of King Abba Thule of the Palau Islands). Noteworthy for its influence on the idea of the noble savage and important for its detailed information.
