Description
Back in my day every 10 year old kid could recite the names of the three ships of Columbus...Cornelius Vanderbilt began his career (and fortune) in the steamship business...but this logo is a Venetian dhow, complete with Crusader crosses...???...because Vanderbilt drew inspiration (!) from the old Venetian bankers (and Italian intrigue), and so not surprisingly he also named one of the hotel's most lavish, and expensive digs the "Venetian Suite"...the Clipper ship was one of America's early technological triumphs...it out-sailed all the competition, especially on the China Trade routes and brought riches and fame to a young USA...this knob from the Commonwealth Atlantic National Bank, Boston c. 1923...all good as found
