THOMAS MORAN (Santa Barbara, California 1837-1926) Etching depicting sailing ships by moonlight roughly 6 in. by 15 in., published by William Wellstood and dated 1879. Signed in pencil by Thomas Moran and James Wellstood with TM trademark in the lower RH corner of etching. The harbor like scene is quite busy with small boats ferrying passengers and cargo to & from and around the large 3 masted ship at anchor. Original gesso framing with minor bits/corners exhibiting loss. Reverse has water marks that only affect the paper backing. Measures 19" x 29.5" in size framed.
