Georg Hampton was a distinguished artist, writer and lecturer renowned for his contributions to modern painting. Born in Texas to an affluent family, he was introduced to fine art at a young age. His journey through the world of art began with formal education at prestigious institutions such as the Art Institute of Chicago, The Audubon Tyler School of Chicago, and The Art Student's League of New York. Under the guidance of luminaries like Henry McCarter, Arthur Carles, Richard Lahey, Emil Bisstram, and notably Hans Hofmann in Provincetown. A photograph of Hans Hoffman with student Georg Hampton at the Art Student's League is in the Smithsonian Museum collection. Hampton honed his craft, absorbing diverse influences that would later define his unique style. Hampton is considered to be one of the pioneers of the Texas Modern Art Movement.
