This beautifully painted memorial was most likely copied from a print source that was used for both watercolors and silk embroideries worked in the Boston area. Watercolor and ink on paper; 19.5 x 23.5 sight. Inscribed: Sacred to the Memory of Stephen Fuller. Who died May 22, 1833. Aged 53 years.



Stephen Fuller (1774-1833) married Lucy Hatch (1783-1845) daughter of Col. Israel Hatch in Boston. They had two children James, and Caroline - who probably painted the memorial. She married Jason Boyden in 1835.



Stephen Fuller owned and operated Fuller’s Tavern, also referred to as the Old Half Way House, one of New England’s most famous hostelries built in 1807, on the Norfolk and Bristol Turnpike, to accommodate stage coach travel between Boston and Providence. Caroline must have had an interesting and colorful childhood.
