Awesome collectibles for Astronaut Walter "Wally" M. Schirra Jr. Schirra was given this award in Twin Falls Idaho from the Chamber of Commerce and College of Southern Idaho, presented when he was a guest speaker in 1999. Included is a framed photo of Schirra and a small write up of provenance. Eagle measures approx. 10.5" tall x 6.5" x 6.5". Walter M. Schirra was born in 1923, Hackensack, NJ. At the start of WWII, Schirra joined the Naval Academy and took an accelerated course so he could graduate and serve during the war. He served during the final months and returned to the US after the Japanese surrender, after which he began training as a Naval Aviator. In 1959, he was chosen to be a test pilot for the newly formed NASA and he was involved in Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. After Apollo 7 launch, Schirra retired from NASA and the Navy at the same time as a Captain. Schirra passed in 2007. Single owner collection inspired by the 1969 Moon Landing.
