BIOGRAPHY:
A Madrid-born painter specialising in landscape, Ramos Artal studied at the San Fernando Special School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving in Madrid, where he was a disciple of Carlos de Haes. He subsequently extended his studies by travelling to Italy, France, Portugal, Holland and Belgium. From 1876 he regularly submitted his works to competitions and exhibitions of various kinds and was awarded the third medal at the National Fine Arts Competition of 1884 and a certificate for the third medal in the 1887 edition. He had previously been awarded the Medal of the Pontevedra Regional Exhibition in 1880 and the medal of merit at the exhibition organised in Madrid by the Association of Writers and Artists that same year. He also took part in the exhibitions organised in the Herraiz Salon and by the newspapers "El Globo" and "El Porvenir". Manuel Ramos Artal is currently represented in the Prado Museum, the University and Museum of Zaragoza, the Government Delegation of Logrono and the Museum of La Rioja, among others.
