Potted into a traditional Meiping form, large, thick and tall potted, wide body on shoulder, slender neck easing to form narrow opening, flaring ring mouth rim, raised on round foot base, with slight concave. Hand painted ornamentations are rendered in white base colour which contrast against blue colour, depicted of abundant lychee tree with foliage. Legend has it that emperor Tang Minghuang of the Tang Dynasty was in love with Yang Guifei, one of the most beautiful women in Chinese history. She was the emperor?s favourite concubine and Tang would do anything to please his ladylove. Yang?s favourite fruit was lychee. Lychee thus became a symbol of the emperor?s love for Yang. Lychee fruits, till date, are held in high regard in China. In fact, many varieties of lychees are named after wealthy and influential Chinese families.The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground revealed and dark greyish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
