A Sketch of Modern France in a Series of Letters to a Lady of Fashion
Written in the Years 1796 and 1797, during a Tour through France. By a Lady. Edited by C. L. Moody. London: for T. Cadell Jun. and W. Davies, 1798. First edition, 8vo, contemporary half calf, viii 518 pp., advertisement leaf to rear, spine worn, lacking front free endpaper, G5 with old soiling and marginal tear, I4 with closed tear in text, engraved armorial bookplate (James Rice Williams); With 1 other similar (2)
Rare in commerce. The author has recently been identified as Louise Elisa Beaumont (1751-1818), the Jersey-born wife of Swiss travel-writer Jean-François Albanis Beaumont, tutor to the children of Prince William Henry, Duke of Gloucester (brother of George III).
