"Antique Large Fingered Shaker Oval 4 Finger Sewing Carrier Box, Signed Sabbathday Lake Shakers Maine, 11"" x 7-1/2"" x 3-3/4""

This is a finely made Shaker oval sewing carrier box with 4 tapered fingers, original robin-egg blue lined interior, bentwood swing handle with brass tacks and signed. It is constructed with a pine bottom, light brown with very thin maple or birch sides held in place with brass tacks. The fingers themselves are also held using hand wrought brass tacks. The fingers are finely shaped. Still retains original robin-egg blue satin lining. The carrier does not have the typical needle case, wax, etc. There are pairs of 2 holes side by side around the carrier (8 holes in total) which had matching robin-egg blue ribbon inserted into the holes. Over time they have been removed.

This original antique primitive Shaker sewing box carrier has the patina that can only come with time and use. The quality of this box is absolutely Shaker. The bottom has a ink stamp trademark that reads Sabbathday Lake Shakers Maine ""SC"".

CONDITION: In almost perfect original condition except for the split in the wood at lower part of handle, as seen in photos. Some scattered water discoloration staining on inside satin lining. A small area of lining has partially come loose from its side at the rim as seen in photos. The handle is intact and swings freely. Original nice patina on outside of box. This has its original patina and has never been restored or touched up. It has normal usual wear and discoloration for its age and was stored correctly over the decades to preserve. All in all a nice piece of shaker history.

MEASURES: 11"" length x 7-1/2""width x 3-3/4"" high. Height with handle measures 8"" from base.

Dating 2nd quarter of the 20th century. These carriers were made and sold by the Shaker's in their ""Fancy Goods"" store to tourists, as a source of income.

A great RARE carrier box for one's collection and worthy of one's collection.
