"Antique Mid 1860’s Black Tin Round Spice Box with Seven Original Divider Compartments Inside - Dome Top Spice Container -Farmhouse Style Rustic Kitchen

This antique round black tin spice box is a rare find with a brass carrying handle on its dome top lid and hinged lid latch closure. The inside has seven tin spice divider compartments.

This round spice container measures 19-1/2” circumference x 6"" width x 5” tall with an additional 1-1/2"" tall brass handle on its dome top lid. This tinware box is unsigned- circa mid 1800’s. I believe dates from the 1860's.

During the 1800's, imported spices were expensive and cherished items. Spices were stored in these tin spice boxes, most likely made by the local tin blacksmith.

This spice chest has a hinged lid clasp closure that opens and closes smoothly. The box has normal surface wear, small marks, some rust and scratches to its original paint, which are consistent with their age and original use from decades of use which adds to their character and appeal. Some rust found on the inside of the round tin chest. There are no major dents and lid is in working condition. There is a small indentation on the dome top. I have not cleaned or altered this black tin spice box and is in found condition, from an early farmhouse estate auction in Western New York.

The perfect gift for an early Americana collector. It would look lovely accenting your farmhouse decor or country kitchen or rustic kitchen, a reminder of kitchens long ago, or to add to your primitive early Americana collection.
