Description

Worked in silk thread on linen, featuring alphabet bands, numerals, geometric borders, flowering motifs, and two birds perched on leafy branches. The lower panel inscribed “Rebecca Simmons, aged 13 years…” and dated 1817. The sampler is housed in a later gilt frame and includes notes on the reverse.

OS: 11 3/4 x 17 3/4 in. (29.8 x 45.1 cm.), SS: 10 1/4 x 16 in. (26 x 40.6 cm.)
