Robert E. Lee Partial Document Signed. One partial page, 8 x 3 inches, no place; 1838. A brief endorsement signed by Lee clipped from a larger document, related to Lee's 1838 project to shift the Mississippi River back toward St. Louis, allowing the city to remain a river port. His endorsement reads, in full: "I certify that the articles within charged, have been received, were necessary for, and have been or will be applied for the objects within stated, to the improvement of the Mississippi above the mouth of the Ohio." Signed, "R E Lee / Lt Engrs." On the verso, a partial list of supplies needed "For the Improvement of the Mississippi river above the mouth of the Ohio." Condition: Evenly age toned.
