Description
Hotan Jade Monkey, height 4.9cm, length 3.2cm, width 2.3cm, weight 41g. A study ornament or pendant from the Han to Wei-Jin dynasties, unearthed from noble tombs or sites, a classic form of high-ancient jade animal round carving. Made of Hotan green jade with moist texture, natural gray skin infiltration and patina, and traces of years of weathering on the surface. Round-carved, the monkey squats with one hand supporting the cheek in a "thinking monkey" pose, with concise and vivid facial features and round lines, reflecting the integration of Han Dynasty "Han eight cuts" and round carving techniques, symbolizing "being conferred a marquis and prime minister, intelligence and auspiciousness". Han to Wei-Jin dynasties (2nd century BC–5th century AD). Witnesses the life-oriented aesthetics of ancient animal jade carvings, a core artifact for studying Han jade culture, auspicious meanings and funeral rituals, extremely precious when preserved intact.
