642. Large collection of 600+ vintage & contemporary horror, monster, and Sci-Fi movie magazines. This incredible collection was compiled directly from Forrest J Ackerman, and indirectly from Ackerman acolytes Ron Borst and Tony Tate, by Ron Magid with the goal of creating a sci-fi, fantasy, and horror movie magazine collection that provided an overview of the career and interests of his mentor, Forrest Ackerman. Collectors will be delighted to find Ackerman's own copy of the scarce French one-shot, Cinema 57, which inspired him to create Famous Monsters of Filmland in 1958, plus Ackerman's own copies of early FM competitors including the short-lived Monster Parade and Monsters & Things, as well as bound issues of Castle of Frankenstein and Don Shay's Kaleidoscope fanzine. The collection also includes rare FM special editions, various fanzines, Ackerman mailings, cover stories, clippings and other ephemera. Of particular interest is a February 1928 issue of National Geographic featuring an article by King Kong creators Merian C. Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack titled "Warfare of the Jungle Folk", which includes research used in the film, and a May 1954 issue of Mechanix Illustrated devoted to the creation of the Creature from the Black Lagoon costume. Truly a spectacular insight into the heart and mind of uber-fan, Forrest J Ackerman. $1,000 - $1,500
