648. Mike the Magicat puppet. Psychic Jeanne Dixon wrote a book about her cat called "Mike the Magicat" where she claimed he had ESP. He also had achieved fame from his running away from her Washington D.C. home and going to see Harry Truman at the White House, who welcomed his visits. Jeanne wanted Mike to be a national sensation so she aske Lou Bunin to make a series of short color animated films about Mike having fictional adventures. The Mike offered here is from "The Cat and the Sphinx" where Mike finds himself in Egypt lending the Sphinx a hand. Constructed of Bunin's own rubberized foam compound for the flexible skin over a special wrapped wire armature, the head on a ball-and-socket mount. The head, hands, tail and feet are covered with velvet and it wears a brown cloth explorer suit, fabric covered hat, leather belt and camera. Includes a wooden tripod. An impressively detailed puppet with eyelashes and bristles for whiskers. Measures 9½ in. tall. Puppet exhibits minor cracking on the feet; otherwise, remarkable condition.
