651. Dragon and Beetle marionettes from Olde Bangum. In 1955, Lou Bunin, Jean Ritchie and Oscar Brand collaborated on a charming tale of a young boy who battles an evil Dragon with the support of a helpful Beetle and Swordfish in the short film titled, Olde Bangum, based on the folktale, "Bangum and the Boar". This lot features the Dragon marionette constructed from a hand-painted wooden head with moveable jaw, wooden hands (one detached), one clawed foot (one missing), and features a green cloth body with applied cloth and metal details and painted wooden spines along the back. Measures approx. 20 in. long. Also includes the Beetle marionette constructed from a hand-painted wooden body and hinged wooden legs, and spring antennae on the head. The "armor" section of the abdomen is missing (as seen in the short film when Beetle hands it to the young boy, played by Oscar Brand's son), the hands and feet are detached but present. Measures approx. 25 in. tall. Includes a detached control bar and strings. Both puppets exhibit wear and distress but remain in good condition.
