Item Details
Description
690. Pair of letters from producer Wm. Dozier to Bruce Lee being his pitch for Lee to play "Kato" in The Green Hornet. (ABC-TV, 1966-1967) Fascinating and revealing inside look to the process of launching Bruce Lee on the screen. It is clear from the text of these (2) typed letter signed messages on Greenway Productions letterhead from William Dozier (producer of Batman) that he was searching specifically for the right project to launch Lee's screen career, and developed The Green Hornet perhaps just for that purpose. The first, dated November 23, 1965 is addressed to Lee in Seattle, Wa., "…my present thinking is to feature you as Kato, the Oriental-ish righthand man of the Green Hornet in the series name which was on radio and in comic books for many years…it is a very important property, and if it is put together as I now visualize it, it will provide an auspicious launching for you.". By the second letter, dated February 14, 1966, not only has Lee moved closer to LA (Oakland, Ca.) but their developing relationship evidenced by Dozier's use of the Chinese signature "chop" which Bruce Lee had gifted him by this time, "…you may be sure we shall sit down and talk with you about various little things you can bring to the show, and I am sure we will profit greatly by your suggestions." Accompanied by their respective typed, postmarked envelopes, all in Excellent condition.
