Description
777. Metropolisfirst release UK front of house still of Rotwang and his beautiful female robot. (UFA, 1927) Gelatin silver double-weight glossy 7 ¾ x 9 ½ in. print referred to in the UK as a "Front-of-House" still, which was their equivalent to the US use of lobby cards. This is not only an extremely rare first-release artifact for perhaps the single most important science-fiction film of all time, it is arguably the most memorable scene in the film. The crazed scientist Rotwang reveals his brilliant, cold, beautiful robot version of the lovely humanitarian Maria, who the greedy industrialist Joh Frederson wishes destroyed for her efforts to organize the exploited worker drones, and because his daydreaming son fancies her. Previously from the collection of Forrest J Ackerman. Fine, with neat staple and tack holes in each corner.
