Description
Robert E. Coontz (1864-1935) Admiral. Coontz sailed with the Great White Fleet and served as the second Chief of Naval Operations. After his four years in that office, Admiral Coontz became Commander in Chief, U.S. Fleet and later Commandant, Fifth Naval District. 8 ½” x 11” typed letter signed, Bremerton, Washington, November 12, 1934, to “My dear Mrs, Merritt.” “…I have been thinking over the contents of your letter regarding your son and his desire to enter college there in Boston….” With a lengthy autograph postscript: I am recovering slowly from the awful accident I had…It was hard luck at my age and just as I was so busy on my book.” There is skattered ink spotting.
