Notes & Literature: Henry Fielding (1707-1754) was a literary giant of 18th-century England, a man who left his mark on both literature and society. He excelled in multiple fields: a prolific playwright, he found his true calling in the burgeoning genre of the novel. Fielding's novels, particularly "Tom Jones" (1749) and "Joseph Andrews" (1742), are considered cornerstones of the English novel tradition.
