Signed verso "Geo Erety Shoemaker 1898" . Rare Dr. George E. Shoemaker who was a physician in Philadelphia in the late 19th century. He was born in 1850 and died in 1920. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and was a member of the American Medical Association. He practiced medicine in Philadelphia for over 50 years. He was known for his expertise in the treatment of children and for his work with the poor and underserved. He was a founding member of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and served as its first president. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Philadelphia Dispensary for the Sick Poor. In 1898, Dr. Shoemaker was living at 1826 Spruce Street in Philadelphia. He was married to Mary Shoemaker and they had two children, George E. Shoemaker Jr. and Margaret Shoemaker. Dr. Shoemaker was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Club and the Union League Club.

Dr. Shoemaker was a respected physician and a pillar of the Philadelphia community. He was known for his compassion and his dedication to his patients. He made significant contributions to the field of medicine and to the city of Philadelphia.
