Description
The NPO papers decline to name a generation, and this signature was used by a number of smiths. Stout sugata with a bohi along the shinogi for approximately 35cm. Iori mune, chu kissaki, and kuri jiri. Jihada is a mokume/itame mix with burls throughout, along with chikei and ji nie. Utsuri visible. Hamon is suguha with yo and some ashi visible. Nakago signed katanamei "Bizen no Kuni Ju Osasfune Sukesada Saku" and dated a day in the 8th month of Genki 2 (August, 1571). In a set of dragon themed mounts with saya decorated with a faux bark motif and mounts decorated in dragon themes in the katakiribori style. NPO does not list a maker in papers, but fuchi is signed "Genyo saku" (?), and NPO lists them as late Edo. 2 piece habaki, bottom half gilt catscratch, top incised brass. CONDITION: Blade is in polish, with some areas of shintetsu visible throughout. Some spots of ware and scratches. Mounts are very good as more recent, with some tarnishing and handling marks, but presentable. With a new made shirasaya with sayagaki identifying the blade and attributing the mounts to Yokoya school. A nice, large, sue-koto katana with papers.
