Description
A Folder and Document (Mappe) for Honorary Citizenship of Ernst RöhmBrown Saffian "Moroccan" leather covered board base with beveled edges, foldable spine and two "900" marked decorative silver metal clasp closures. Obverse cover with impressed Bavarian Coat of Arms of two shield-holding lions rendered in color and trimmed in gilt. Inside frame edges of brown Saffian "Moroccan" leather, decorated with embossed gilt lines surrounding parchment mirrors with artist signature "FRIEDA THIERSCH" in gilt lettering at bottom of document page. Left side parchment document with a gilded-paste eagle of early style. Right side parchment documenting honorary bestowal of citizenship to Röhm, written in calligraphy style black lettering with "ERNST RÖHM" rendered in gilded-paste large lettering. Original signatures in black ink by Ludwig Siebert, Adolf Wagner, Hermann Esser, Hans Fank, Hans Schemm. Dated 20, April 1933. Size when open ca. 64 x 41 cm. Featured in the publication "International Militaria Collector", Volume 12, Number 1, B&D Publishing, Dietrich Maerz, pp. 47-52. In an attempt to erase Röhm from German history, most items belonging to him were destroyed resulting in extreme rarity of such surviving pieces.Ernst Julius Günther Röhm (28 November 1887 - 1 July 1934) was a German military officer and a leading member of the Nazi Party. A close friend and early ally of Adolf Hitler, Röhm was the co-founder and leader of the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazi Party's original paramilitary wing, which played a significant role in Adolf Hitler's rise to power.
