Adolf Hitler – an architectural sketch for a German museum (National Gallery) for Berlin, circa 1925Transparent paper, the floor plan of the museum drawn in pencil. The walls labelled in blue, the exhibition rooms numbered in pencil, the direction of the tour marked in red and indicated by arrows in places. Landscape-format sheet, with the artists' allocation to the individual rooms in Hitler's handwriting on the upper edge. In pencil, he writes "A.) Cornelius 1.) Genelli, Führich 2.) Casa Bartoldi, Overbeck, Nazarener 3.) Nazarener 4.5.6.) Schwind 7.8.9.) Böcklin 9.) Leibl (note: crossed out) 10.) (barely legible) 11.) Liebl 12.13.) Feuerbach 14.) Marrée 15.) Röhl(?), Engert, (??) 16.17.18.19.20.) Menzel 21.22.) (not allocated) 23.) Markart u. Piloty 24.) Grützner Defregger". The sheet headed "Entwurf eines deutschen Museums für Berlin (Nationalgalerie)" in the right margin in pencil by Albert Speer, next to "I.". Folded once, somewhat stained. The edge slightly creased with small tears. Dimensions approx. 31 x 45 cm.Although his applications to the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna were rejected, Hitler's passion for art and architecture remained undiminished throughout his life. While incarcerated in Landsberg, Hitler designed plans for buildings, like this sketch.See the Bavarian State Library, this sketch is published under image number "hoff-54714" in the image archive with pictures from the Heinrich Hoffmann photo archive, "Nachlass Adolf Hitlers Mai 1945" and "Fotografie (nach einem Plan 1923/1925)".
