Description
An Ottoman yatagan with Wootz-Damascus blade and silver scabbard, dated 1800Typically curved, single-edged blade of dark Wootz-Damascus steel. On both sides a narrow fuller along the back, the back with chiseled midrib. Rich gold-damascening on both sides. On the obverse a calligraphic cartouche inscribed "work of Huzeyin, owner Arif Aga" with the date "1215" (= 1800). Gold-damascened grip ferrule and grip strap, grip panels of walrus ivory, cracked on the right side. Richly chased wood-lined scabbard of part-gilt silver. Illegible tughra stamp on the edge of the locket. Length 79 cm, weight of scabbard 804 g.Attention: This lot can only be shipped within the European Union.Condition: II
