Description
A rapier of the Munich City Guard, circa 1600Robust tapering blade of diamond section. Recessed oblong ricasso framed by incised lines and struck on either side with a fleur-de-lys mark (probably Wolfgang Ständler, cf. Zeitschrift für Historische Waffenkunde, volume 8, p. 202, mark 46). Robust, blackened swept hilt, spirally turned grip elaborately bound with brass and iron wire, and two Turk's heads. Flattened barrel-shaped pommel with small tang button. Length 101 cm. Typical rapier of the Munich City Guard. Several similar rapiers are housed in the Munich Zeughaus and the Bayerische Armeemuseum in Ingolstadt.Condition: II -
