Description
A fine German engraved hunting powder flask, circa 1700The body made of two parts and glued at the sides, of polished staghorn, the attached bases and spout held by iron pins. Elaborately decorated on both sides with engravings in copper plate quality. The obverse with a central cartouche depicting a bear hunt, surrounded by three portrait cartouches and scrolling leaves. The entire reverse decorated with a hunting scene. In the centre a bear attacking a hunter, two hunters on horseback rushing to help with pistol and spear. In the background a landscape with architecture. Two movable iron suspension rings on one side. Length 21 cm.Condition: II +
