A miniature painted and decorated Windsor chair, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1810

A paper note tacked to underside of chair seat inscribed, “This little chair/ belonged to/ my mother/ Martha Warner Cresson/ Mercy Anna Roberts/…24th 1911.”    

H: 9 ½ in.



Provenance

Martha Warner Cresson (1808-1877) was the daughter of Hannah Humphreys (1776-1812) and James Cresson (1776-1843) of Philadelphia. Her grandfather was Philadelphia silversmith Richard Humphreys (1750-1832).

By direct descent in the family to the present owner.
